《臺灣音畫》完成於1999 年，2000 年2 月27 日由美國指揮家亨利．梅哲指揮台北愛樂管弦樂團首演。這部由〈玉山日出〉、〈安平懷古〉、〈宜蘭童謠〉、〈恒春鄉愁〉、〈泰雅情歌〉、〈鹿港廟會〉、〈龍山晚鐘〉、〈達邦節日〉等8 個樂章組成的交響曲，描繪了臺灣的民風民情，展現了臺灣的鄉土鄉音，表達作曲家鮑元愷先生在臺灣的所見所聞，帶著寶島特有的濕潤與溫暖，以樂觀的胸懷為這個正在迅速改變的時代留下美好壯麗的畫影，用溫馨的旋律留下語言無法表達的刻骨記憶與深切眷戀。

《臺灣音畫》(套譜) 國樂版總譜、分譜

《臺灣音畫》是一部原創與改編相結合、抒情與寫景相結合、本土與國際相結合的交響樂作品。依照傳統的交響曲結構，全曲分為4 個部分：第一、二樂章，壯美恢弘的慢板，從寫景到懷古，為第一部分「起」；第三、四、五、六樂章，依快– 慢– 快三部結構組成的以臺灣民間音樂為基調的民族色彩樂曲，為第二部分「承」；第七樂章，靜謐安詳的慢板，為第三部分「轉」；第八樂章，粗獷豪放的快板，終曲，為第四部分「合」。

2016 年，《臺灣音畫》由臺北市立國樂團委託孫光軍先生改編為國樂版
